The Association

The Jove Orquestra de Ponent was founded and formally established in 2011 as a youth association by young musicians of Lleida, who had the firm and independent desire to be part of a youth symphony orchestra.

About sixty amateur and professional members from all around the area of Lleida actively take part in the project.

Members participate in assembly in order to accomplish the complete functioning of the orchestra and the different tasks inherent in the association.

The Orchestra

Since its debut in spring 2012, the JOP has been a resident orchestra in the city of Cervera and in the Auditori Enric Granados in Lleida, occasionally bringing new repertoires to other places of Lleida, the “Palau de la Música Catalana” in Barcelona and other towns outside the Catalan territory. The principal conductor of the Jove Orquestra de Ponent is Agustí López Piñol.

The “Jove Orquestra de Ponent” has organized highly varied repertoires, ranging from completely classical music concerts to soundtrack concerts, as well as, Latin American music concerts, soloist concerts or opera. Choirs, dancers, singers, soloists, and even set designers, have shared the stage with the orchestra. The association’s challenge is to keep reinventing ourselves in order not to lose the confidence we have been able to earn from the people living in the area of Lleida, especially among the youngest sector.

Our Values

As musical association of young people we set the values that identify us wherever we play.

Young and for the youth

One of our main focuses is the explicit willingness to spread our love for symphonic music among the youngster with the objective to raise understanding and enjoyment towards this style of music. Ticket discounts for young people, collaboration with the university of Lleida, new musical and communicative approaches, etc. are elements which help our orchestra to be the ensemble from the auditorium of Lleida with the highest percentage of youth among its audience.

The association annually organizes an Orchestra Masterclass to attract young musicians from all around the word. Moreover, the association has given the opportunity to young soloists to perform with us, as well as to conduct the orchestra. A contest of young composers, the promotion of graphic designs for students of graphic arts or young artists from the area of Lleida, are some examples of our philosophy.

Commitment with the culture and the territory

Another of our main focuses would be the support and involvement with the rest of cultural and youth entities from the area of Lleida. Thus, the association is an active part of the associative network of the territory being involved in entities such as “La Sirollada” or the “Local Council of the Youth in Lleida”, which englobe different associations from Lleida.

We collaborate with other ensembles from our area, as well as other schools, institutions and entities from different artistic branches. Our implication with our society is annually reflected with a collaboration with an entity of the field of volunteer social association.

The combination of these symbioses facilitates the consolidation of our association as a cultural and social factor within the area of Lleida.
